Sale of Souls is a unique story of land acquisition which is relevant to the post-globalisation era in developing countries. The author, in this stunning story, has captured the uncomfortable realities of the present era. It is also a romantic story which is set in a remote village on the coast of Canara, which is known for its beautiful environment and bio-diversity. The author has skilfully portrayed the harsh reality of poverty vs. development vs. environment. The gullible villagers who have lost their land, which is more valuable than their life to them, fight against the powerful lobby of industrialists and politicians. Samar, the protagonist, in his endeavour to solve the issue by way of sustainable development discovers himself in love with Roshini, an advocate. The novel is built with scrupulous care. The action is tied into a perfect and permanent knot by the skill with which the two themes of love and land acquisition are intertwined together. Though, there are two themes the story is one, not two.
It is wonderful novel.i enjoyed a lot by reading in one stretch.so it deals both
1. Love story
2.Exploitation by politicians
In between common persons suffer a lot in this system
Finally it is awesome novel.
This is one of a kind,as the author said at the book launch he chose the path which is less travelled and it had made all the difference. The name of the book itself intrigues any person and I thoroughly enjoyed moreover it made me aware of the hardships that villagers, farmers and the displaced groups face.I happen to see the other side of the coin.Iam glad to have read this book and I really liked the cute little love story and the potrayal of the two youngsters.
I liked the theme very much. It was aptly portrayed by the writer. We are also project affected family in TN. The sufferings and cries of these people go unheard under the laughter of the project benificiaries. We are also waiting for the justice since few years. Generally, the history is written by the victor but here the novel is written for the loser and the sufferers. Worth reading
I remembered Nandigram....well portrayed.
Lazoi The Life
It is a lovely title and started getting confused initially and as the story moved on the struggle opened up and reveling and exposing political involvement of land acquisition like SEZ in urban areas with all conceptual facts taken up. Involvement of two young soul taking up the entire cause is well depicted. The book brings about the scenic beauty of the western Ghats region. Readers should not get confused by looking at the title of the book. Over all a excellent book.
Sale of Soul is a timely book. Living in Bangalore and looking at the tremendous growth and eventually the city encroaching upon the agricultural and the forest land is saddening and I could relate to this.In this sleepy town of Canara where people are busy with their day to day lives are shaken by the unexpected land acquisition and then unfolds a tale of hurt, grief, struggle individually and as a whole which is beautifully narrated by the author.Another important aspect highlighted is the ignorance of stakeholders in the share of the property. This book also has an endearing love story, some action and picturesque description of the locale.
A good book to read while you are traveling as it might make you nostalgic.
Sale of Souls by Vidhyadhara is indeed a SOS call on what is important - Industrial Development or Environment ?
This debate, so relevant in today's times, forms the background of the story woven round the inmates of a sleepy coastal town which wakes up to a harsh reality of facing eviction for the sake of Industrial revolution.
While the protagonist in the story takes a middle of path approach, the author cleverly forces the reader to make the final choice on the debate. One is left wishing that the story has a happy ending but then life's reality as depicted in the story is always something different.
The book could have done with some better editing but that's certainly not the author's fault. But nevertheless a book to read for the honest attempt made !
Sale of Souls is a fabulous story in which the author has blended the themes of land acquisition and love excellently. It engrosses the reader so much that the reader gets involved in the story. It is very interesting and the characterisation is unique of its kind which
forms an image of the character in the readers' mind. Diction is good and the novel depicts the picture of real life of villagers who have lost their land.
This is really a nice book.
Amazing book capturing the struggle of a common man amidst land acquisition, love and politics. It depicts reality at every stage in the novel. Overall a very good novel which provides deep insight and information on how gullible villagers are duped for the advantage of industrialists and politicians.
SALE OF SOULS is a book highlighting the issues of common people for generating employment to solve poverty instead fighting for other trivial issues.Book takes along small love story to make it interesting A must read.

"Sale of Souls" is a wonderful novel by a gifted author. The book makes an interesting reading and the characters in the novel come alive in the backdrop of coastal Karnataka. Wish many more novels flow from his pen!
'Sale of Souls' is an excellent book which focus on land acquisition. It is found to be a good book about land acquisition, sustainability and environment. I felt this is found to be a good book while travelling with a mix of love story and land acquisition mafias and its impact on the innocent villagers.
The sale of souls starts as usual like any other novel and catches up speed with the fourth chapter. The story of the two lovers fighting for their land and love.A suspense till the end is interesting to read with a social theme. I found it informative and interesting.A balanced approach towards achieving the development.
